Next semester seems so far away and is not on most students' minds. However, the time will draw near and events will be staring students in the face. Over the summer, one event to think about that contributes to the fight against breast cancer is "Race for the Cure," sponsored by the Komen Foundation.

While the event is almost four months away, registration deadline is Aug 1. Last year, Pace had the "second largest team from a university or college." To register and make this happen again, log onto www.komennyc.org. The team name is "Pace University" and the password is "pacesetters." Registration cost $25 and proceeds are donated to the Komen Foundation.

This event will take place on Sunday, Sept 14 at 9:00 a.m. in Central Park. The Komen Foundation has raised almost one billion dollars towards research in breast cancer thus far.

Money raised has contributed to early detection, more hope, more research, and more survivors. Donations collected from this event will benefit local hospitals and foundations of cancer research.

Students, faculty, and other members of the Pace community will be provided with breakfast, courtesy of Lackmann, and transportation to Central Park. Furthermore, participants will receive a goody-bag and remembrance t-shirt.

* "Without a cure, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer…"

* "Without a cure, an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer - and more than 1 million will die - over the next 25 years"

* "Without a cure, an estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer - and 10 million could die - over the next 25 years"

Simply put, raising money and contributing to what appears to be an endless battle will help researchers

find a cure for this relentless cancer, which ultimately will save millions of lives worldwide.
