Setter Stage with Ruben Pagan
Alex Pandolfi
Alex Pandolfi- Readers of the Paw Print welcome to Setter Stage. This week we play a little football with Pace running back and track team runner Ruben Pagan. Ruben, your one of the few two sport athletes I have interviewed. Is playing two sports hard at all?
Ruben Pagan- Sometimes, considering that the spring is usually the off-season for football. The spring is a lot harder though because I have spring football and track.
AP- Alright, which one of your two sports do you enjoy more?
RP- Football, but track is rewarding within itself. Also, no one is there cheering for me during track meets.
AP- You have a point there. So with track and field do you participate in both track and field, or just one?
RP- Only track, no field events. I would do the long jump if I could.
AP- If you could put yourself into a running race with any current NFL running back, who would it be?
RP- Probably Ron Dayne, because it would be a guaranteed victory for me.
AP- Now, you mentioned to me that before coming to Pace you were primarily a defensive player. Do you prefer being a running back or defensive back?
RP- I always played defense coming out of high school, and you're more free to move around on defense so I would pick that.
AP- The Kansas University Men's Basketball team recently just won the national title for Division I. Did you fill out a bracket this year Ruben?
RP- Unfortunately yes. I went with all upsets and I ended up getting upset.
AP- Sorry to hear that. Let's look forward to the NFL Draft. Who do you think is going first?
RP- If it's not Darren McFadden, the NFL should just stop holding drafts.
AP- You mentioned you were a Giants fan, what route do you think they're going in the draft this year?
RP- Probably linebackers, but our defensive backfield almost lost us the Super bowl, even though we still won.
AP- Name me any three celebrities, they can be dead or alive, that you would have dinner with.
RP- Walter Payton, because he is my favorite football player. Jessica Alba, because she is the most amazing woman on the face of the Earth. Third, probably the guy who owns the bunny ranch on HBO, I'd like to meet that guy.
AP- If you could pick one TV show to watch all day long, which show would it be?
RP- A Law and Order SVU marathon. Only the one's with Ice T in them though. King of Queens would be a close second.
AP- Are you a fan of the other versions of Law and Order?
RP- I like the regular Law and Order because all of them are true stories, but Criminal Intent might be the worst show I have ever seen.
AP- Right next to me I see everything set up to play the game Rock Band. Are you a fan of Rock Band and video games in general?
RP- I just love Rock Band. I don't really have the time to play a lot of other games. We hook it up to our stereo and wake everyone up.
AP- Sounds like a sweet rock band. What's your favorite song on there?
RP- Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It's the best song for everyone and everyone kind of knows the words.
AP- Ruben, fill in the blank to my sentence. Right now, my Ipod is playing…
RP- Love Song by Sara Barielles, it's a good song, or probably something techno. It's what I work out to.
AP- Yeah I'm not going to blame you for the Barielles song. Anyway, I'm surprised this question has slipped my mind, but what is your favorite sport to play and to watch?
RP- Probably Lacrosse, for me it's a challenging sport to play and I like that. Also, it's an exciting sport to watch.
AP- Has anyone ever given you an interesting nickname?
RP- Nothing has ever really stuck. Just variations of my first name.
AP- What is your least favorite workout in preparation for your sports?
RP- Anything that consists of swimming. I'm the worst swimmer and I can't tread water. Also, anything in the freezing cold.
AP- If you could pick any field event to participate in, what would it be?
RP- Javelin, because I would feel like I'm in the movie 300 throwing a spear.
AP- Name three foods you can't live without.
RP- Anything with cheese, definitely eggs, and New York City dirty water dogs. They are the best.
AP- Last question Ruben. If there were to be a movie made about you, who would play yourself?
RP- Usher, Tiki Barber, Will Smith, or Jessica Alba, just because she is amazing.
