Teacher Feature with Professor Angelo Spillo

In honor of Earth Month, let's meet the professor who is behind the planning of the daily events. This week, meet Professor Angelo Spillo. Professor Spillo is the Director of Pace University Environmental Center and a part time faculty for Environmental Studies. For the students whom have taken class with Professor Spillo, who would have known that he likes to make some "mean" soups and listen to AC/DC. Also, find out how he celebrates Earth Day.
1. What is your favorite weekend activity?
Fish, garden, hike, tennis, and bike.
2. What else do you do besides teach?
Advise students, develop conferences and workshops, oversee several environmental projects such as Earth Month, and serve on committees for outside environmental organizations.
3. How many years have you been with Pace University?

4. Do you read the Paw Print? If so, what is your favorite section?
I look through the whole paper each time.
5. Where did you for college? What was your major?
Pace University. BA Education, MPA.
6. What is your favorite movie? Book?
Rocky, or Godfather. [As for] books, "Run to Daylight" and "A Place in the Sun".
7. What are your favorite dishes to make and your favorite food to eat?
I make some pretty mean soups. There are way too many good foods to have a "favorite"!
8. What is your favorite class to teach?
The Naturalists. Its fun and a challenge to try to infuse excitement into students being told to read John Burroughs or Rachel Carson.
9. What other careers or professions are you interested in?
Don't really know. Can you make any money eating while fishing?
10. What is your zodiac sign?
Aries
11. How do you celebrate Earth Day?
By praying for it to be over. I'm so tired of earth events by the end of April, that I just want to get away from it all. But actually for that day I am always involved in some event that celebrates environmental awareness. This year I have put together a "Teach In" which I am very excited about.
12. What is one environmental issue that concerns you the most?
The thought process of the human mind. Aren't all environmental problems the result of our perceived needs and desires?
13. What is your favorite music? Depends on my mood - Dave Matthews, to AC/DC to B.B. King to Jo Dee Messina.
