The Union of Adjunct Faculty at Pace are pretty riled up about several key Union issues. Among these issues are health insurance, minimum salaries, and salary increases. The University claims to have been addressing these issues since Feb. 27. They expect to continue bargaining in "good faith and reach an amicable agreement" until every issue is negotiated. And yet, still the part-time professors are threatening to initiate a strike.

Obviously, if they do strike, "a third party will suffer," according to one of Pace officials. Some students who I have spoken to on campus are worried that they will not be able to receive their appropriate class credits with the professors on strike, especially the seniors who are on the brink of graduation. And I would like to add that we value all of our professors and without their reputable knowledge and experiences, we would not be prepared with any adequate education.

The professors deserve all that they are bargaining for. And on behalf of the student body, we commend you for sticking up for your rights. I just hope that the Union of Adjunct Faculty at Pace will have a little bit more patience as the University negotiates this tedious process. And do not forget that as students, we need you. But know that you are supported.

The University's negotiation status for the Adjunct Faculty thus far is the following:

A minimum rate per credit hour of $800, and a salary increase averaging 3% effective Sept. 1, 2008. The $800 per credit minimum would provide an additional increase for over 100 adjuncts currently in the lower salary range.
