Setter Stage with Ellen Lynch
Alex Pandolfi
Alex Pandolfi- Welcome Paw Print readers one and all to this week's Setter Stage. We take a dip in the Goldstein Fitness Center pool this week with senior swimmer Ellen Lynch. So Ellen, being that we just passed April fool's Day, did you play any good pranks?
Ellen Lynch- No, I didn't play any pranks. Did I get any pranks played on me though? Yes.
AP- You answered my next question before I asked it. What was the prank?
EL- I work at the Y and a little girl there said I didn't have work the next day because the Y was going to be closed. I wasn't thinking about April Fools day so I believed her and she then said "April Fools."
AP- Speaking of April Fools, did you happen to catch the last Paw Print issue?
EL- No, I didn't read it, but my roommate thought President Caputo was actually coming back.
AP- I thought that was a very good one. So how long have you been swimming?
EL- I have only swam for two years at Pace, but I started in about third grade. So altogether, about six or seven years.
AP- A lot of swimmers are life guards as well. Have you done any life guarding?
EL- Yes, since I was about 16.
AP- This is my swimmers only question, maybe I will expand it in the future. If you could take a swimming pool, empty it, and fill it back up with anything to swim in, what would it be?
EL- A fun thing to swim in would probably be whipped cream. I don't know why, but I love whipped cream.
AP- You told me that you're a management major. If you could have any job outside of management, no matter what you would get the job, what job would you want?
EL- I'm a big Mets fan, and I would love to work for the Mets. I would really love to be a PR person for a baseball player. That's probably my dream job. Also I have always wanted to sing the National Anthem at a baseball game. It can be any baseball game not necessarily a Mets game.
AP- You also mentioned that you were a Criminal Justice major at one point. Are you into CSI and all of those shows?
EL- I like all of the CSI's, Law Orders, and all of those TV shows.
AP- If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be?
EL- My grandpa Jack, he was the swimmer in the family and died before my parents even got married, David Wright, and probably Julia Roberts.
AP- Now the Pace swimming team also involves diving, which do you prefer: swimming or diving?
EL- Swimming, I've tried diving and I don't like it. I only swim, but I have to do all the long distance events.
AP- Ellen, please fill in the blank to my sentence. Right now, I'm addicted to….
EL- Right now I'm addicted to Rock Band.
AP- I can definitely agree with you on that one. What is your favorite instrument?
EL- I've tried all of them, and I love the drums. I would have to say my favorite is the bass.
AP- That's cool. What is your favorite Rock Band song? There is a wide variety to pick from.
EL- Probably "Sweet Child O'Mine," I do it on easy, I'm not quite on medium yet.
AP- That's cool, I have trouble on hard but I'm getting better. Instead of playing with plastic, have you played an actual instrument?
EL- When I was in fifth grade I was in a marching band, and I played the fife. I marched in two parades, the St. Patty's Day Parade and a Memorial Day Parade.
AP-Alright, you mentioned that you watch a lot of TV. What is your favorite show?
EL- Well, before the writer's strike it was Grey's Anatomy. Recently I watched the DVDs from all three seasons of Arrested Development.
AP- I'm going to go back to your love for the New York Mets. What's your opinion on Johan Santana?
EL- He has good stuff. Especially since Pedro hurt himself again the other day.
AP- Has it always been swimming for you, or have there been other sports in the mix?
EL- I've played softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball. A plethora of activities. I was probably best at softball; I'm not really sure why I quit.
AP- You might want to knock on wood with this one. Have you ever gotten hurt in your plethora of activities?
EL- In soccer I sprained my ankle. I was on a coed team with my brother. This freshman sort of pushed me and stepped on my ankle.
AP- Wheaties has been considered the "Breakfast of Champions." What is your "Breakfast of Champions?"
EL- When I eat breakfast, it probably would be French toast. Especially my mom's French toast.
AP- Ok, I have never asked this question before. Let's say you have a bad day. You got home and you want to put in a movie to cheer you up. What movie are you popping in?
EL- If I had a bad day, it would most likely be Shrek. I imitate the muffin man, and I know every line in it. That would definitely be the thing to cheer me up.
