As many of you watch these television shows and listen to the sometimes outstanding and sometimes lack thereof soundtrack, you begin to question who these artists are. Many shows have begun to demonstrate the music with guest appearances. One television show that has taken it to another level is One Tree Hill.
One Tree Hill has always been the show known for good music. Having a past MTV VJ, Hillary Burton, play a music fan character known as Paton, the character was developed around knowing independent music. Now that the One Tree Hill characters are back as adults, their drama is still the same, but their career lives are better. Paton has taken her love for music to another level. Her character comes back to Tree Hill and becomes a music Manager.
This is where One Tree Hill starts a new way of advertising up and coming artists. One Tree Hill has introduced us to a character fans all know as Mia. What many fans don't know is that Mia is an actual singer, and that she isn't brand spanking new.
Mia's character actually goes by the name of Kate Voegele. Voegele began singing at the age of ten with her church choir in Ohio. Having her father play guitar at home didn't inspire her until she reached high school where she began what would be her career. She began to write as many other artists do, about heartbreak.
Voegele's father convinced her to let him record some of her songs and with surprise, one of them got picked up by Warner Bros. She created a 5 song EP in 2003 and began performing at local shows, venues and even at label showcases.
In 2006, a website many of you are familiar with, MySpace.com, signed her to their Record Label and released a full length album, Don't Look Away. Since then, Voegele has been very independent and low key.
When her character was first introduced to One Tree Hill, she was the keyboardist in a band. Paton knew that she was the reason the band was so good and decided to sign her to her new record label. From then on, Voegele has been known as Mia to many and like most television shows, people have questioned where they could find the characters music.
Since premiering on One Tree Hill, Voegele has also been a featured artists on MySpace when members look at other peoples previous profile songs. Her one hit that many people have come to love or hate to love for hearing it so much on the television show is, Kindly Unspoken. Her lyrics are simple and sweet, but at the same time, they have their power. "Kindly unspoken, you show your emotion and silence speaks louder than words. It's lucky I'm clever cause if I didn't know better, I'd believe only that which I'd heard." Those are the lyrics to the chorus of Kindly Unspoken.
When talking to a Pace student about Voegele and her career, Ellen Conaghan stated, "Her character on the show is really awesome, and her music is that pop rock kind of music that a lot of people listen to. It seems like she's going to make it because of her long appearance on the show and her distinctive voice."
One Tree Hill mentioned that Mia's hit single in her career would be, I'm Only Fooling Myself but with her debut on the show, Kindly Unspoken and Kate Voegele herself have become the hit.
In the mean time you can catch Kate Voegele on One Tree Hill, Monday nights at 8PM as Mia, or you can just visit her website www.KateVoegele.com.
