Stay at Home Spring Break
Sandy NG
Spring break is coming up and the students of Pace University could not be happier. Work is piling on and mid-terms just add to already present stress. A week off from classes might not be much, but it is enough time to rest that brain to gear up for the next half of the semester. Most students have already booked their flights to warmer destinations. But for the majority of students who are not going anywhere special for spring break, it does not mean there aren't any alternative activities.
Going away for a week is common amongst most college students; however, there is nothing wrong with staying at home. Here are some activities to do to stay occupied:
* Spring break is the best time to catch up with old friends. Spending some time with old pals and getting caught up can help one relax
* Look for a summer job or internship. Research some local stores or offices that are hiring. It may only be March, but it is never too early to apply. Give availability to companies so that when May rolls around there is a job waiting. Visit Co-op and Career Services for further assistance.
* Study. Yes, it is true that this is a break from school, but some students may have mid-terms the week after spring break. Throw in some time for studying even if it is for an hour, at least you can keep that brain active. It is also never too early to study for finals and start writing final papers.
* Summer vacation is just around the corner. Book flights early to get inexpensive tickets and special deals.
* Relax and spend the week with family. For some away at college, the cure for homesickness is spending time with the family.
* Shop for clearance items. Since spring is just about here most stores put their winter items on clearance. Stock up on low-priced winter boots, jackets, coats and accessories for the next snowy season.
* Shop for summer items. It may be a little pricy because it is in season, but it is time for a spring/summer wardrobe.
*Return to old jobs. For students who dorm, returning home and working at their former job is a good way to earn some extra pocket money.
* Check out local concerts. Music is a great way to get the mind relaxed and alleviate stress. Hit up a local club or any venue to see who is playing.
Spring break does not have to be all about going away to beaches and parties. It can be simple and relaxing. These alternatives can help one stay active and prepare them for the rest of the semester.
