Setter Stage with Jen Mayo
Alex Pandolfi
Alex Pandolfi- Once again Paw Print readers, welcome to another week of Setter Stage. This week I interview Pace Track and Field, and Cross Country senior Jen Mayo. She has even been on the Pace swimming and diving team in the past. So Jen, track and field, or cross country, both involve some form of running, but do you consider them different? Also, which do you prefer?
Jen Mayo- I definitely consider them different. Track and field is when you're on a track and cross country is when you're in the woods on a set path. I like cross country more, because it's better than running around in circles.
AP- I always thought cross country was a circular path in the woods, but I guess you learn something new everyday. Anyway, you mention to me that you're majoring in finance. What are your plans with that?
JM- I want to be either a financial analyst or an auditor.
AP- So, how long have you been running track?
JM- I have been doing it since sophomore year of high school, so seven years.
AP- Ok, you said you were once on the swim team, so I like this question for swimmers. Let's say you had an empty swimming pool to fill up with anything to swim in, what would you fill it up with?
JM- Probably melted ice cream, so it would be a liquid.
AP- Have you done any other sports?
JM- In high school I used to play soccer and lacrosse.
AP- Before you run, what music are you listening to get you pumped up?
JM- I like O.A.R. but everything is on my Ipod so it could be anything.
AP- Your Ipod sounds a lot like mine. Do you prepare for track and cross country differently?
JM- Yes, track has many different exercises since you repeat around the track. Cross Country is more distance running so the exercises are made for the distance.
AP- Have you ever participated in the field portion of track and field?
JM- No, I tried to get over the hurdles once and they told me to stick to running.
AP- Here comes the question I ask every week. If you could pick any three celebrities to have dinner with who would they be?
JM- Everyone from Friends, especially Matt LeBlanc.
AP- I will accept that answer, sticking with Friends, what's your favorite episode?
JM- The one where no one's ready. I think Joey (Matt LeBlanc) does lunges in Chandler's clothes and says "I'm going commando." I'm not sure if that's the episode or not.
AP- I can't help you out there, I never saw that one. I'm going to stay with Matt LeBlanc, or Joey, for one more question. What did you think of the Joey spin off?
JM- It was horrible, such a let down. I only watched one episode and it wasn't on much longer, I think about three episodes.
AP- I guess I should be glad that I never watched it. What's your favorite movie since Friends is obviously your favorite show.
JM- I'm not a huge movie person but I have a select few. A Walk to Remember and The Notebook are my favorites.
AP- Something that has been on my mind for this entire interview is, have people made or poked fun at your last name before?
JM- Everyone calls me "mayonnaise", especially when I was a little kid in school.
AP- Do you even like mayonnaise as a condiment?
JM- Not really, only on turkey.
AP- If you could bring one sport to Pace that currently isn't here, what would it be?
JM- I would want it to be a triathlon. It's not really a team sport, but it's the first thing I want to do when I graduate.
AP- Sounds like a nice goal you have for yourself. With St. Patrick's Day coming in a few weeks, I sort of asked this last week, but do you consider it a holiday?
JM- I consider it a holiday, but there should be an Italian holiday. The food is much better.
AP- Speaking of food, what three foods could you not live without?
JM- Ice Cream, Spinach and Artichoke dip, and Quesadillas.
AP- You just said a minute ago that there should be an Italian holiday. If one were to exist, what date would you make it on if you had control?
JM- St. Patrick's Day, so there would be competition.
AP- I like that answer. A very wise, and multi talented journalism professor of mine, I won't mention names, once said he rarely buys a woman jewelry. If you had a boyfriend who didn't buy you jewelry, how would you react?
JM- I'd rather have a nice card than someone spend a lot of money on jewelry.
AP- I think my professor would love that answer. Thanks for you time Jen Mayo.
