We all pay tuition here at Pace, that's a given. And logically, our tuition is used to pay the faculty's salary, right? Of course it is, because in the business world, that's how things work! Now don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against this, they do deserve payment for their hard work. The problem with Pace's staff is that while many work hard, some hardly work.

The biggest issue here is the security. Anyone here can attest to the fact that they do patrol the campus. However, they can also tell you it is very rare that they are actually in the guard booth at entrance three during any given weekday. Given all the security issues involving college campuses, with incidents like Virginia Tech and all, you'd imagine there'd be a guard making sure no one is coming in that doesn't belong.

I can attest to this mostly because of what happened to my friend recently. It was Mon., Feb 25, the when a close friend of mine got a flat tire on campus. I was just exiting a class when I saw him and went over to help him out. During the time it took he and I to replace the tire, three different Pace security guards, in vehicles, passed us. Not a single one of them stopped to see if everything was all right. What was even more agitating was the fact that two of them definitely saw us, because they had their windows open and gazed directly at us.

The worst part of it all was the fact that they just continued to drive on by like it was no big deal. I haven't seen too many students with flat tires on the campus. And it's not like it was a pressing matter that required all three of the guards to act on it immediately. The least they could have done was pull over, or even just stop to ask if everything was okay. Even though it was just the age of the tires that caused the flat, what if it was an act of vandalism? The security would have never known.

Luckily, my friend did have the appropriate tools for the job. But what would have happened if he hadn't? Would he have been stuck there, forced to get help from a fellow student rather than the paid security at Pace?

I think one thing we all should consider is the security over at Briarcliff. Though guards are never by the entrances at the Pleasantville Campus, on Briarcliff there is usually security by the entrance. This guard pays attention to the fact that many people try to access the campus. He also makes sure that the cars entering actually do have the appropriate stickers to park.

Another difference between Briarcliff and Pleasantville is the gate. Though the two both have gates, Pleasantville's gate is up constantly, yet Briarcliff's gate is down and controlled by the guard on duty. One would think that the campus with the classrooms, and probably more students, would have the tighter security gates, and guards that checked for stickers.

In this day in age where security could be called into question at anytime, college campuses need the best possible. After these past few days, it's probable that Pace does not have this level of security. This article wasn't written as something to scare you into thinking we're all in harms way. Instead, it was written to make you think about where your tuition money is really going.
