Feb. 23, Pleasantville- Women's basketball coach for the Setters, Carrie Seymour, earned career win number 300 as a result of Pace's 77-62 win over the Dolphins of Le Moyne College.
Seymour, who has been coaching the Setters for 16 years, reflected on the milestone win by saying, "I think we've been real lucky with very good coaching staffs and players over the years. After a while, I think all the numbers just pile up."
With the win, the Setters also clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference tournament.
"It's a lot bigger than the 300 wins in my mind." Coach Seymour said about the conference bid.
While those two accomplishments were big, they were rivaled by one Setter's accomplishments during the Le Moyne game. Senior guard Stephanie Klingele contributed to the Setters' victory by scoring a career high of 28 points. Of those points, 18 of them came from Klingele's career high of six three pointers.
Klingele's 28 points were also a game high, and she also held the game high for assists by totaling five.
Freshman guard Lisa Welsome led the Setters in rebounds by taking down seven.
On the Dolphins side of the court, sophomore center Courtney Coryea led the Dolphins in scoring with 18 points and rebounds with eight.
Junior guard Kathleen Gladstone led the Dolphins in assists by passing out four. She also scored eleven points for Le Moyne.
The Setters started the game with one of Klingele's six three pointers in the opening minute, and began to crack the game open a little after going on a 7-2 run.
This five point lead was very short lived as the Dolphins brought themselves back to tie the game at ten with 14 minutes left in the opening half.
The Setters and Dolphins would keep this game somewhat even to the first half's midway point.
With the score tied at 17, a three point shot sunk in by sophomore forward Taylor Losey not only gave the Setters a 20-17 lead, it also started the Setters 13-4 point run over the next six minutes.
A free throw made by Coryea ended Pace's scoring run and helped Le Moyne in an effort to catch up.
Coryea scored another four points for the Dolphins within the next minute to bring Le Moyne within four points of the Setters.
The Setters responded with another one of Klingele's three pointers, bringing the score to 33-26 with two minutes left in the first half.
A free throw by freshman guard for the Dolphins, Danielle Felice, made the score 33-27, which became the halftime score.
Le Moyne started off the second half by drawing closer to the Setters. Four points in the opening two minutes by Gladstone made the score 33-31.
Klingele started the second half off for the Setters in the same fashion she did in the first, by sinking in a three pointer.
The schools remained even, trading shot for shot. Eventually, with a little under 16 minutes remaining in the game, Coryea made a jumper that gave Le Moyne their first lead of the game.
This lead would be very short lived as Klingele once again would step up by sinking another three pointer for her team, giving the lead back to Pace with a 42-40 score.
For the next seven minutes, the Setters would attempt to break away from the Dolphins. The Setters would go on an 18-8 point run this time, bringing the score to 60-48.
With only eight minutes remaining in the game, the Dolphins were looking at one more chance to win. They would bring themselves to within eight points of the Setters, but the sixth and final three pointer from Klingele would spark off a 12-2 point run, giving the Setters a strong 77-56 lead.
The Setters would not score again for the remaining three minutes, but with a dominate lead held on for the 77-62 win.
The victory for Pace improves their overall record to 10-16 and their NE-10 conference record to 9-12.
The loss for Le Moyne makes them fall to 14-12 overall and 11-11 in the NE-10 conference.
