Drugs. Many of us have different opinions on them depending on the substance and our own experiences. Whether we've experimented or never even given them the time of day, we can all, for the most part, be thankful that it hasn't ruined our lives. For all of these drug education courses taken and all the commercials shown, young adults still do not receive the message. Not only have recent studies shown that there has been an increase in the amount of teenagers and young adults using drugs, but that they have even turned to harder drugs.

One particular event happening is the recent "comeback" of ecstasy, a popular "club drug." Ecstasy was shown to have declined in recent years but now has made a comeback, especially here in New York. The problem is not only that the drug has come back, but that it has returned much stronger and more dangerous than before. Often time Ecstasy will be mixed with some other substance to reduce the cost of production. Lately, however, it is not unusual to find ecstasy laced with methamphetamine or "meth". Meth is a very addictive stimulant drug and mixed with ecstasy can be very potent, and even more dangerous.'

Some may attribute the comeback of ecstasy to the ease in which it can be transported into the United States through Canada. And despite the efforts of law enforcement officials, it can be smuggled in quite easily. The dealers and the manufacturers, however, would not make any money if it were not for the demand of the drug. People today start experimenting with drugs before they even know the dangers, and most of the time only have the word of their "friends" to go on. By the time they are educated on the drugs it may be too late. Education at an earlier age is imperative to the well being of the future generations. It is the responsibility of everyone to put an effort and try to slow this down, especially in the club scene.
