Are you registered to vote yet? If so, where? College students who are no longer living in their hometowns can legally register to vote in either place. However, if you're already registered to vote in your parents' hometown, living away from home, you will be required to get an absentee ballot for every election. This can be aggravating. So start getting political this Presidential election in your college town by registering and voting in Pleasantville!

New York law states that any 18-year-old American citizen can vote in any community where they have been a resident for at least 30 days prior to the election. Students can therefore register and vote absentee from their college address or register and vote absentee from their parents' address, which can be a big hassle.

Also, choosing your college address as your "registration address" can be a good thing because you will be qualified to vote in all local elections. Many students must become involved on a political level in their college town since they are dedicating at least four years to living there. It is NOT a waste of time, despite those who feel otherwise. The decisions being made in the local area have a direct affect to students, thus it is important they should become aware of the entire local, along with the national, issues.

Students will have a voice in how the town operates recreationally, economically, and professionally by participating in elections. For example, at some point during your four years at Pace, you will wonder why you're driving thirty minutes to get to the nearest shopping mall. You will want to provide input on what businesses should be brought to Pleasantville based on your needs as a college student. You should also be interested in electing local candidates who support public policies that will improve economic conditions and job opportunities for graduates.

Don't forget that the next Presidential election will be held on Nov. 4, and you could still be here at school. Rather than worry about an absentee ballot, you could quickly and easily go to the local voting booths and cast your vote in Pleasantville. Will it be Hillary, Obama, or McCain? No matter who it is, you're making a difference by voting. It's time you take advantage of your rights and register to vote… even in the local elections. So "Rock the Vote" in Pleasantville.
