Whenever you watch a movie nowadays, you are greeted by an obscene sound that accompanies the THX logo. Perhaps the most obnoxious sound I have ever heard, it is just a loud noise that 'demonstrates' the surround sound capabilities. To be honest, I think it's just there to wake you up after the boring previews, or to remind you that everything is going to be really, really, loud.

So what could be worse than hearing this whenever you enjoy the leisurely activity of viewing a movie? Why, hearing it over and over again in the area in which you dine! If you were in Kessel on the nineteenth, then your ears had the extreme pleasure of being bombarded with it. Just imagine how annoying it could have been if you're trying to converse with your friends, or even focus on homework. And after having a long day of classes and frustration, this really would be the icing on the cake, wouldn't it?

Perhaps the most antagonizing part of this lovely predicament was the fact that no one could stop it. To make matters worse, it was considerably loud. At first, I climbed up [to the TV] to attempt to silence the infernal racket, but it was to no avail; it showed no signs of yielding. Students even complained about the sound, but nothing was done about it.

Apparently, it was for there for orientation, and that's why it wasn't removed. I think they could have chosen something better and slightly less repetitive, at least something that doesn't make you want to tear your own ears off.
