Meet the Minister
Pace Hires Spiritual Leader
Ashley Studley
She's part of the Pleasantville Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Hearts and Hands club at the Presbyterian Church, and the Pleasantville Women's Club. She is the retired Vice President of a Citi Bank, and she substitute teaches at Belle Middle school in Chappaqua whenever she's needed. And as of Jan. 22, Dianne Sordini is Pleasantville's new on-campus minister.
She is both a member and a Eucharist Minister of Pleasantville's Holy Innocents Parish, where she has been a member of the Parish Council for 13 years. It was there that member John Agnelli, Director of Student Development and Campus Activities (SDCA) approached her and asked if she'd be interested in such a position.
She has an office in SDCA, and is contracted as working ten hours a week, but she explains that it will probably turn into more.
The Fordham graduate will be leading an Ash Wednesday service on Feb. 6 in Butcher Suite, and is interested in holding Rosary services every Tuesday alongside William Mulligan, the Archdiocese of New York, beginning on Feb. 12 from seven to eight o'clock p.m. in the Spiritual Center located in Wilcox.
Although she describes herself as a very religious woman, she will not focus solely on her own faith. She will be attending two inter-faith conferences, one with only ministers and the other with both ministers and students. She expressed her interest in Shabbat, and explained that she wants to become more familiarized with other religions that Pace students might be affiliated with. "I want to take a modern day religious studies class," she said. "I realized that the more you go to school, the more you know that you don't know."
"I want to be flexible," she said. "Students can come to me with any questions. I don't know all of the answers, but I will seek them out."
Sordini added that she keeps personal matters confidential, and she is more than happy to give her personal contact information.
Sordini has many plans, such as sending packages to soldiers in Iraq, and putting out boxes around campus for people to donate their old eye glasses which will be refurbished and sent to third-world countries. She also plans on using her connections through her respective organizations to raise funds for Pace's Relay for Life event.
She is excited to work with pace students, and encourages people to visit her in her office. "This is an opportunity to share myself with them," she said.
