Pace University well known lyricist is making a name for himself. Find out why

As students of Pace University walk the halls of Lienhard and Miller, many don't take the time to notice the talent in this school. Pace University does give us open mic nights, and because of open mic night, students here at Pace have met Tim Rago.

'Dangerous, Intelligent, and Victorious' are the terms used to describe the emcee whose words captivate audiences and whose analysis is impeccable. Primarily Known as D.I.V., the New York native, Originally from Yonkers and growing up throughout Westchester county, puts knowledge of self and an over-standing of life into words, which intertwine phenomenally with rhyme schemes and harmonies to structure eclectic works of epic proportions." Rago stated about himself on his biography.

Although Westchester doesn't seem like it could have possibly given Rago struggles, it did. He's states that he's not from the "hood", but his influence comes from hustling and from the problems he had when he used to go to the deep parts.

Rago struggled with many problems in his life; witnessing many loses of friends and family. The one thing that helped him through the struggles was poetry. Not just any poetry; Rago's poems became lyrics, and lyrics became songs. His music reads like a poem because he expresses himself through it, it's a release for him.

Rago states, "I incorporate poetic influences, because poetry is the only thing that's doesn't have any boundaries. You don't have any constrictions, limitations, or barriers, and it could be as long or as short as you want. I try to keep the same attitude with my music, so when I make songs I want them to be limitless, not in length, but in the concepts and the ideas it provokes."

As self-proclaimed "NY's favorite white guy" Rago is finally going in the right direction and is working on his debut album.

Although he is part of a group, being a solo artist is his niche. "I want to be as original as possible. I'm a lyricist; I'm not a pop music snapper to just make money." To Rago, music is about getting people to listen, understand, and feel like they're not alone.

Rago's been working on this album for four years. With the help of his previous experience with the band Uninvited Guests and special appearance on the album of two Pace Students, Rago is ready to take on the challenge of being signed.

It might seem like he's just another rapper try to get his 15 minutes of fame, but what Rago brings to the table is much more than anyone is giving at the moment.

He claims that his album will probably start some controversy, but at the same time it gives the listeners the typical love song, club song, and sexual song.

"I don't want to just do the same old [stuff] that everyone else is doing, I definitely could, but that's why critics say Hip Hop is Dead, and our culture is being targeted by mainstream America. I need to be that breath of fresh air to the collapsing lung, the new blood being sent to the heart of the music. I put my everything into this music, and so have all of our legends, and its got to be carried on, protected, and appreciated. Therefore I want to be as original as possible, so if everyone is going right, I'm going left, far left at that. I'm trying to bring a new wave of creativity and innovation to take my music in new directions".

Finishing the album a little less than a month before the album debut, Rago is promising to give us the truth. His song Revolutionary is going to be one of those songs people question whether or not they are guilty of liking. "I'm not trying to give them controversy; I'm giving them the truth. I'm the uncovered truth, that's what I want to give to people because I don't want to lie and if you want something sugar coated listen to 'Candyland'."

Candyland, on the other hand, is your typical love song, Light Switch is the sexual song, and Crossroads with Pace student Nicole Davis, is your typical ballad.

The album has 25 tracks, and Rago promises that there has never been so much versatility and power in any album out since we became introduced to "apple bottom jeans" type of songs.

D.I.V. has it all, and although many artists aren't ready to face the truth, Rago isn't depending on making it big. "I'm still going to do what I love to do. If I'm selling it, good. If it doesn't work, than it doesn't work. This is for the industry. I'm here and ready to go."

The album's debut date is set for Feb. 26, at the moment there may be a chance of change. Keep your mind open for something new and support your fellow Pace student.
