Nov. 20, Pleasantville- While most Pace students were focused on the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Paces women's basketball team had one thing on their mind, getting their first win of the season. The Setters did just that as they gave the Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC) a stinging 66-52 loss.

Shots were being launched from beyond the arc early as the Setters made six three-pointers within the game's first 12 minutes. The three's gave the Setters ultimately gave the Setters an early 20-13.

The Yellow Jackets were not looking good shooting from anywhere on the court. As a team AIC had a first half field goal percentage at 28 percent.

This stat was reflected on the scoreboard as the Yellow Jackets would only score nine more points in the first half after scoring 13.

Pace took advantage of this by tagging on 17 more points to their score before the end of the first half, which ended with a lay-up by senior guard Christine Fitzgerald just as the buzzer sounded. The Setters ended the opening half with a commanding 37-22 lead at the end of the opening half.

The Setters shot 43 percent all around in the first half, while shooting 53 percent from beyond the three-point line.

Senior guard Stephanie Klingele led Pace with nine points halfway through the game, six of those points coming from three-pointers.

For the Yellow Jackets at the end of the first half junior forward Stacy Boisvert and senior forward Alexis Castro led the Yellow Jackets with six points apiece.

Even though the Yellow Jackets stung first in the second half, the Setters kept their dominance by maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. With 12:54 left in the game Klingele drained another three-pointer that gave the Setters a 20 point 52-32 lead.

The Yellow Jackets would keep on creeping closer as they were primed to take the lead, but the closest AIC could get to Pace was within 12 points.

The Setters kept the Yellow Jackets at bay and freshman forward Brittany Huggins made two free throws with 22 seconds left, putting the final touch on the Setters dominating 66-52 win.

Klingele led Pace with 16 points and tied with freshman forward Kristin Connolly in rebounds with six each. Huggins was just behind Klingele in points with 15 and getting three boards. Sophomore guard Laura Mooney led the Setters with seven assists on the evening.

After the game Klingele had this to say about her performance, "It feels very good."

Klingele also expressed how she feels about the rest of the season ahead saying, "Our team is very different this year. It's a lot younger but we are working hard and we are going to do the best we can."

For the Yellow Jackets Boisvert totaled a game high 23 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Senior center Jen Nnanna tied Boisvert for the AIC lead in rebounds with nine as well. Yellow Jackets guard Alissa Rubino led AIC in assists with five.

The Setters as a team ended with a shooting percentage of 40 percent from the field. The Yellow Jackets posted a team shooting percentage of 34 percent.

With the win Pace women's basketball is now 1-1 overall with a 1-0 record in the Northeast-10 conference (NE-10).

The next time the Setters women's basketball team can be seen at home is on Dec. 1 when Pace takes on conference opponent Southern New Hampshire at a 1:30 p.m. start time.
