A new fraternity is on the rise at Pace. However, this one seems to have a unique place among the other fraternities and sororities.

Timothy Rago, along with another Pace student who graduated last year, began their goal to bring Delta Sigma Pi, a professional fraternity for business students, to campus about a year and a half ago. The fraternity may be new to Pace, but in an interview with the Paw Print, Rago said the fraternity has approximately 200 chapters throughout the world. Until Rago and other members complete the steps to becoming an official chapter of the fraternity, will be known as K.I.N., a colony of Delta Sigma Pi.

Delta Sigma Pi, unlike social fraternities/sororities on campus, is open to both men and women, but is restricted to business majors.

"Ours is more on the end of an honor society," Rago said.

Members are required to pledge, however. The process, which would take no longer than a month, according to Rago, and would consist of quizzes about the chapter: its history, mission statement and other information.

"We want people to be knowledgeable about the organization they are pledging," Rago said.

However, because K.I.N. is not an official chapter presently, Rago said none of the members have pledged yet, adding that joining will be easier while it is still a colony.

Benefits for members include belonging to a network consisting of approximately 200,000 business students of diverse background.

" In business networking is one of the most important aspects," Rago said.

Members also have access to scholarships and grants throughout the organization.

Obligations for members include $10 dollar dues each semester and maintaining a 2.5 grade point average, though Rago said they are thinking about bumping it up to a 3.0.

To help students meet the academic standards, Rago said they were planning on arranging for tutoring services for its members.

"School is the most important thing in our organization," he said. "When people feel stressed out we want to help them."

Rago said he hopes the fraternity will become an official chapter by next year. In the meantime, they plan to remain active on campus, sponsoring events such as seminars in identity theft and money management, a fashion show depicting what to wear, as well as what not to wear to job interviews and a trip to the Federal Reserve, co-sponsored by the Finance Society.

Another event which K.I.N. is planning for the spring is a seminar in the Empire State Building for those interested in management or business in the music industry.

The events, Rago said, will be open to all Pace students.

"We don't want to deter anyone from coming to our events," he said.

Rago also mentioned K.I.N.'s aspirations to bring Jada Kiss and the Lox to Pace for a concert. "If the school complies, it'll happen," he said.

Uniting the organizations within the Lubin Business School is another goal Rago cited.

" We want to bridge the gap," he said. "We want to help Pace step their business school up a notch…it can only help their reputation."
