How to Work a Career Fair:
Tips That Will Help You Make the Most of The Next Career Fair

- Dress as if you are going on an interview
- Bring extra copies of your resume
- Do your homework on what companies you will be most interested in
- Prepare your 30 second "infomercial" before hand (name, degree graduation date, strengths, goals, why you are interested in that company, etc.)
- Get to the Career Fair early to check out the lay out and determine what order you'll go in
- Maximize your time (listen while you're waiting)
- Meeting the recruiter: shake hands, clearly state name, leave copy of resume and ask what the next step is
- Prepare a list of questions designed to increase your knowledge about career opportunities
- Before you move to the next company's table, remember to ask for the recruiter's business card and pick up any available info.
- Keep in mind that employers have varying agendas (promoting their company and providing info. that will help you form an opinion on the company)
- If companies ask you to apply online, it doesn't mean they're not interested, they need documented info. on all serious candidates
- Even if there are no jobs that you are interested in, use the fair as an opportunity to practice networking skills, practicing your 30 second "pitch" and marketing yourself effectively
