Senses Fail is currently on a co-headlining tour with New Found Glory and special guests Bedlight for Blue Eyes and The Receiving End of Sirens. On October 28th, 2007 they made their way to New York City, playing at the Nokia Live Theater in Times Square.
The crowd started to show up a little before 5PM standing in front of the Nokia. As it got closer to 6PM, when the doors were about to open, the line extended along 7th Avenue. Fans wore their Senses Fail and New Found Glory t-shirts and didn't mind the near freezing weather.
After doors opened, anticipated fans gathered around the stage to wait yet another hour until the first act.
The theater became packed, and for a Sunday night show to be sold out, it wasn't uncommon considering the big acts such as Senses Fail and New Found Glory. The talk of the hour was 'who are you hear to see tonight?' and most fans all reply the same, "Senses Fail!"
The evening wasn't getting any younger, when the show finally kicked off with opening act Bedlight for Blue Eyes, an alternative rock band from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey at 7PM sharp. Although the band might not be as well known, Danny (lead singer) had no problem getting the crowd's attention with his sexy dance moves and his one-of- a- kind voice.
The fans who knew the lyrics to songs like "Waste My Time" and "Ms. Shapes" sang along as loud as they could. Danny definitely got the girls' attention, as they were screaming "Danny we love you!"
Bedlight, playing a 30 minute set and squeezed in a good five songs and got the whole crowd hyped. By the time Bedlight was playing their last song "Ephemeral Addictions" the crowd had begun to start the mosh pit.
The Receiving End of Sirens, an indie and experimental band from Boston, Massachusetts spent no time setting up as they were just as anxious as their fans were.
The lights on stage turned off and the boys of The Receiving End of Sirens started their first song as the stage lit up into bright orange lights. Many fans were familiar with The Receiving as the crowd got louder and screamed the lyrics to each of their song.
Even lead singer and guitarist Alex got a little too excited that he played his guitar a little too fast and had to pause the show for a minute, because he cut his finger and his guitar was covered in blood. Alex did make a fast comeback and made a little joke to the crowd about it.
Energy continued to rise not only on stage, but throughout the whole entire crowd from front to back. Every five minutes the security guards would yell "watch your head!" Kids were crowd surfing to get to the front of the stage, but unfortunately couldn't get on stage with the band. The Sirens played a little over 30 minutes. Once they left the stage, the curtains closed and the crowd started cheering "Senses Fail!"
It was the longest 20 minute stage set up in the eyes of the fans.
The energy was burning and the heat was shooting amongst the crowd. The curtains began to open and the crowd screams.
Senses Fail, the well know screamo punk band from Ridgewood, New Jersey was finally on at around 8:30PM.
Buddy the lead singer jumped to center stage performing their first song "Can't be Save" from their most recent album, Still Searching. The moment the song started, fans started to mosh, crowd surf, as well as tried to push their way to the front. The crowd who knew every single word to the songs being played, screamed along.
Girls and boys were found all over the air. Buddy jumped into the crowd and let the crowd take on the challenge of screaming like him. For the fans it was no challenge.
Senses Fail got to play an hour long set. They got a chance to play a little of everything from each of their three albums. As they were getting closer to the end of the set, Buddy and the rest of the boys slowed it down by singing the emotional and most recent single "The Priest and the Matador."
Senses Fail had a strong ending by playing fan favorite "One Eight Seven" from their EP From the Depth of Dreams. With lyrics like "Sunlight shining through my window, lets me know that I'm still alive," this just show fans how Senses Fail have come a long way.
At the end of their set Buddy announced that after the tour they will be returning to New Jersey to start writing for their next record. Then the curtains closed.
The crowd was very impressed with the performance and chanted "one more song, one more song!"
Being a fan of Senses Fail since 2004 and seeing them live for the first time reminded me of the first time when I listened to them. I was so blown away after the show that I couldn't see, hear, taste, touch, or smell. Or should I say my senses fail!
