October 28, Pleasantville- Pace honored their two volleyball seniors Ashley D'Agostini and Rebecca DePaoli this past Sunday, while they lead the Setters to a dominating 3-0 win over conference opponent American International College (AIC) for the final home game of the season.
D'Agostini had a performance to remember, as she recorded a triple-double, nailing down 11 kills, 26 assists and 10 digs. DePaoli would end the match against AIC with seven kills.
For both seniors, this would be the last time they would set foot in the Goldstein Fitness Center to play in a volleyball match.
The DePaoli stated how she felt after the match, "It's bitter sweet. This has been home for the past four years."
D'Agostini added her feelings saying that "I'm very happy that we won but, I'm sad this is my last home game. I'm going to miss playing in this gym."
With 2,282 career assists D'Agostini enter Sunday's match up third all-time at Pace.
Junior Korena Johnson had this to say about the final home game and eventual departure of her teammates, "It was a nice ending and I'm going to miss those girls next year."
Johnson ended the game against the Yellow Jackets of AIC with nine kills, and seven digs.
Junior Danielle Furka put up a great game as well with a team high 14 digs, while providing the Setters with seven kills.
Even Pace's freshmen players joined in on the Senior Day blowout.
Sianna Johnson led the Setters with three aces and two solo blocks while Stephanie Kazmierczak provided Pace with a 13 dig performance.
It was a very ugly match for the Yellow Jackets when the Setters pounced out to a 5-0 lead to begin the first game. The Setters made AIC look stunned when they made a lot of their points off of slow moving shots.
Pace took an eleven point 19-8 lead after S. Johnson completed a dig that made a rainbow arc over the net, and pounded on the floor.
The Setters would bring their already commanding lead to a 15 point difference before clinching the game one win 30-15.
In the second game the Setters maintained their vice grip on the Yellow Jackets. Pace fired up a 4-0 lead to begin game two.
The Setters would once again keep the Yellow Jackets in utter silence. Pace kept AIC in single digits during the second game with a commanding 30-8 win of game two.
Pace finally put this match to rest in the third game. The Setters once again would get off to an early lead, this time bringing the score 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets provided Pace with a little scare in the third game bring their deficit down to only five with a score of 18-13.
Even with the small fright, the Setters continued to overpower the Yellow Jackets winning game three 30-21 and shutting out AIC 3-0 for the match.
With the win Pace improves their overall record to 11-13 and the Setters' Northeast-10 (NE-10) record improves to 8-4.
This was the third home match that the volleyball team had this weekend.
On Saturday, the Setters suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Bulldogs of Bryant University. The Setters came out electrified as they won the first two games. Unfortunately the Setters could not hold that lead together as Bryant won the next three games winning the match and improving their NE-10 conference record to a stunning 13-0.
The Stonehill Skyhawks came to Pace on Friday, but could not fly out with a win as the Setters ran away with a 3-0 victory.
Despite Sunday's game against AIC being the volleyball team's last home game. The Setters still have three more games left in the regular season, the next one being against NE-10 conference rival UMASS Lowell on Nov. 2.
