"Permanent Me was the band of the night."

On Oct 15, band Permanent Me returned to the Knitting Factory in New York City for the purevolume.com Tour.

Although it was a Mon. night, fans still came through to see Permanent Me, amongst other opening acts such as Making April, Rookie of the Year, and headliner Secondhand Serenade.

The small crowd wasn't very enthusiastic for Making April, as the band only played four songs and was put on the tour last minute. However, Making April still managed to get some fans' attention with their soft melody.

The acoustic rock band from Cortland Manor is made up of only three members on guitar, keyboard and bass.

As Making April made their way off stage, Rookie of the Year made their way on stage setting up equipment.

A moment later the lights turned off, and the crowd became more curious. Then Rookie of the Year (which is a better known band from Fayetteville, North Carolina) stepped on stage, clapping to the sound of the music at the same time that the crowd got a little more energetic.

Rookie played a good six songs and got the crowd more energetic towards the end of their set.

Ryan (lead singer) insisted that the crowd sing with him, but that didn't work out so well. Rookie finished their set with a song known as Pop Destroyed the Scene.

By that time, the fans were livelier and the club was more packed as Rookie played their last note.

Although the fans were mostly waiting for headliner Secondhand Serenade; Permanent Me was also a fan favorite.

Permanent Me, made up of brothers Michael and Artie Fleischmann (drums and bass), Brian Kapler (lead singer, guitar), and Joe Guccione (guitar) started off their set with Christine.

The indie rock band, from Bellmore, NY had no problem getting the crowd's attention. As they played their catchy tunes, fans shouted out the lyrics and cheered them on.

Permanent Me's album opener Until You Leave and hit single Allison were the crowd favorites of the night.

"Allison is a simple love song," stated Kapler on the band's website.

So, what is it that makes Allison so likable amongst fans? "Just because it's sung by Permanent Me," said one fan who attended the show.

With lines like "…who makes boys hold their breath as you walk on," Allison is indeed special.

The band ended their set by thanking the crowd for coming out on a Mon. night to support them.

The night was still young as it was only five past nine.

The members of Making April, Rookie of the Year, and Permanent Me scattered around the club for meet and greets with fans.

Mike (guitarists from Rookie) walked around greeting and making conversation with fans, and of course at the same time convincing them to buy the Rookie album.

However, there was no need for convincing as fans were lined up by the band's merchandise table to purchase CD's, posters, and t-shirts.

Permanent Me and the rest of the acts put on a great show, and I'll go back to see them again.

The band members were extremely nice and friendly. I recommend going to check them out on the rest of their tour until November 4th.

My guest for the night, being a first time concert attendee, enjoyed them very much.

I also recommend going to the Knitting Factory (located on 74 Leonard Street) for cheap shows. There's at least one act playing there every night of the week and tickets are not pricey at all.

I left the show with Permanent Me's Allison lyrics in my head "…hey now Allison you are the one, who changed my life before it had begun," and realized their fame was just beginning.
