Britney Spears has officially lost the custody battle of her two kids; Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. A Los Angeles judge awarded the father, Kevin Federline, full guardianship until further notice.
Since the surprise news of her secret album, and the controversy surrounding her disappointing VMA performance, the press has been following her and publicizing her every move.
This final decision came two weeks after Britney was found guilty of habitual, continuous, and frequent abuse of controlled substances and alcohol. During that hearing, Britney was ordered to take parenting classes and be subjected to random drug and alcohol testing every two weeks.
After finding out that she did not carry out the agreement successfully, it became a known fact that she was out drinking almost every other night after the hearing.
There have been a lot of accounts recently that have put Spears' parenting abilities into question. She was seen driving with one of her children sitting on her lap with no regards to a legal safety device. She also took her child to a dentist insisting that his teeth be whitened after all the sugar and junk food that he was eating. The worst perhaps, being a scandalous photo where Spears' is seen almost dropping her youngest son while carrying alcohol in her other hand.
On the other hand, many have come forward to testify that Britney is loving and devoted to her kids, but perhaps uneducated on how to properly take care of them.
Spears' former body guard Tony Baretto, who was recently fired by the star, publicly announced that he would testify against Britney if he was needed. He went on to explain that there were "issues of nudity by Ms. Spears, persistent drug use, and safety issues involving the kids post rehab."
Ten days earlier, the singer was also charged with a hit and run when she left the scene of an accident after allegedly ramming into a parked car. She could be facing up to six months in jail. That is a separate court case that she is facing, amongst the custody battle she had to undergo.
To continue adding insult to injury, she was dropped by her management after critics severely frowned upon her VMA performance.
Up until this final decision was made, Spears and Federline had been sharing custody, each spending an equal amount of time with the boys. However, Federline has been constantly fighting for more time and money since their split.
A source close to Federline claims that after Britney has had the kids, it takes Federline three days to get them back on any type of schedule; claiming they are a bit disoriented and confused about this constant and abrupt change of lifestyle.
It is apparent Britney's "darkest hour" is continuing. Many hope that this will finally serve as a a long overdue wake-up call. Perhaps she could begin by realizing what being a mother is really about.
