Pace has followed in the steps of other colleges and universities and has implemented an E-Alert notification system to notify the Pace community of any emergency situations.
The system is a new one for Pace, one which Rick Whitfield, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, and Frank McDonald, Associate Vice President for Safety and Security, are strongly urging students to register for.
"In light of the recent incidents, the reasons for signing up for e-alerts are clear. Sign up, encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same," read in a statement sent out via e-mail.
Students, faculty, and staff can sign up for the notification system at ealerts.pace.edu.
"We will use this system for severe weather alerts and other unlikely but potentially significant events that may need your quick response. We also will utilize Pace University email accounts, text messaging, phone trees, local radio and TV stations, the Pace homepage as well as a myriad of other ways to communicate with our community in an emergency situation."
The families of students are also both allowed and encouraged to sign up.
Despite having the new system, old ways of communication will still be used. "Our present Web site notification page and our recorded phone messages will remain in operation. On the Pace home page, look under Weather Closings or go to www.pace.edu/weatheralerts; for the lower Manhattan campus and the Midtown Center, call (212) 346-1953; for Pleasantville, Briarcliff, and White Plains, call (914) 773-3398. We will continue to send information to local radio and TV stations and their Web sites," Whitfield and McDonald stated in the email.
