What Are Dreams Anyway?

Most people either disregard their dreams as just a bunch of weird things thrown together in our sleep, while others are interested in the meaning behind them. Everyone dreams every night, but not everyone remembers them.
With that in mind, our dreams are mostly images that we have experienced or seen before. Although they seem like they have no pattern or make no sense, they actually do in some way. Everything we experience usually has logic behind it because that's how our brain works. It doesn't like chaos, so we make everything orderly.
We have different parts of our brain, as we know, and all of these parts contribute to our dreams. When we are awake, our brains are in constant motion, controlling what we do and how we do it. When we are asleep, all the things that we have experienced and know mesh together in our mind and our brain doesn't sort the chaos into an order like it does when we are conscious.
So then, how do we interpret dreams to mean things if it is just a bunch of chaos? Well most times, dreams, no matter how chaotic, are a way of bringing attention to aspects of your life, such as how you feel.
You can figure this out by interpreting them. And if you think looking them up in a dream book works, it will for some things but not for others. Just like everyone interprets events in life differently, so do people who have dreams. Just because two people dream about cantaloupes doesn't mean that the cantaloupe was in the dream for the same reason.
Most dreams have to deal with you and they can usually relate to something going on in your life at the moment. Dreams can also help you to figure out a problem. If you start writing down all of your dreams, you will eventually figure out what certain things mean.
For instance, say you get upset one day because you failed a test and that night you dream of cows eating grass. The next time you get upset, you might have another dream about a cow eating grass. In turn, you can maybe guess that the next time you get upset, the cow might return.
Yes, it sounds silly, but eventually you can figure out even more meaning to the dream. Maybe the cow eating grass means that you are upset and like to eat a lot? Or maybe it just means that you really want to succeed and are "hungry" to do well next time.
Either way, you can eventually figure out their meanings. However, there are some things that almost always apply to dreams. If you dream about an animal, it usually symbolizes your own traits, whether good or bad. Vehicles that you drive in usually reflect your direction in life and your health. For example, if you are driving a beat up car, it might mean you are not feeling well.
If you dream about children, it can usually be applied to something new, different and happy. If death is part of your dream, it usually means a change is coming about.
If you are someone who remembers your dreams and would like to know what insight they can give you to your life, start writing them down and then see what trends appear. You might learn something about yourself that you didn't know before.
Also, the more you start writing down your dreams, the more dreams you will have, or really remember. If you go to sleep unsettled or not relaxed, you most likely won't remember a dream but if you let your mind wander before you go to bed, the likelihood of remembering it increases.
