Sept. 22, Pleasantville- The Setters started off with a speedy 2-0 lead this past Sat., only to let that lead slip away to a Golden Knights of St. Rose comeback and a loss of the match 3-2.

Pace won the first two games 30-26 and 30-25 respectively. The Golden Knights would not go down quietly as they came back to win the next three games 30-20, 30-16, and in the deciding fifth game 15-12.

The Setters and the Golden Knights were fighting back and forth in the first game until the score was tied 3-3. The Setters then took control and would eventually extend their lead 11-5.

The two schools did battle once again as St. Rose took control, tying the game at 15 and then taking a small lead only to be tied again at 20. St. Rose would go on to take a 24-20 lead but the Setters once again took charge eventually winning the game 30-26.

In game two it was more of the same. The two teams kept going back and forth but the Setters seemed to have more energy as they took a commanding 14-8 lead. Unfortunately, this lead would not be long lasting as the Golden Knights would eventually tie the game again at 23.

With the teams dead even at 23 Pace gained momentum, taking the lead and never looking back as they took game two 30-25.

In fear of being shutout, the Golden Knights started game three with some urgency. The teams once again struggled back and forth until the game was tied at seven. After that it was all St. Rose as they went on to win game three, 30-20.

With their backs against the wall, the Golden Knights were not done. After Pace took a 3-0 lead in game four, St. Rose came back and took command once again winning game four by 14 points, 30-16.

Even though they let their 2-0 become a tie at two, the Setters would take a loss lying down. Pace was the first team to serve in the fifth game and unfortunately started off trailing 5-1.

Taking a quick timeout, the Setters looked like they still had some life closing in on the Golden Knights, finally bringing the game to a tie at twelve.

The Setters would not score again after that as the Golden Knights ultimately won the fifth game 15-12 and the match 3-2.

After the match, the team was frustrated. Junior Danielle Furka said, "We had them, and we just gave up."

Senior Ashley D'Agostini added, "We should have won, but we didn't." D'Agostini came out of the game Sat. with all of the assists for the Setters with 41.

The top performances for match came from junior Korena Johnson who led the Setters with 19 kills. Johnson also ended the match with eight digs, two blocks and one ace. Also freshman Stephanie Kazmierczak rung up a team high 26 digs for the match.

With the heartbreaking loss, Pace will fall to 4-3 overall and 2-1in the Northeast-10 (NE-10) conference, suffering their first loss in the conference this season. However, the Setters did win earlier last week on Tues. Sept. 18 against non-conference school Queens College in a suspenseful 3-2 victory.

The top performances in that match came from D'Agostini who had a triple-double recording 25 assists, 14 digs, and ten kills. Furka had a double-double performance of her own, with 18 digs and eleven kills. Also, Johnson led the Setters with 14 kills and freshman teammate Victoria Pompilus had five blocks which was also a team high.
