Even if you think that football is something you could never enjoy, just think about some things that you can learn about life just from watching a game. Here are some things taken from an article written by Brian Kim on www.briankim.net.
1. IT TAKES TIME: When a football team wins a championship or even just a game, it's one of the greatest moments in their life. However, it's easy to forget about how long and how much time it took to get there.
They didn't start off winning automatically. It took time to get to where they are. Similar to football, every great success in life will take time. You will fail just like they failed, but eventually you will come out victorious, and that's something to always keep in mind.
2. BALANCE IS IMPORTANT: Most people believe that winning a football game is mostly contributed to having a great defense. Yes, that might be partially true, but without a good offense, you can't get very far and vice versa.
The game of football is about being a good team all around. Just like a football team, your life needs to be balanced. You can't ignore one part, and put all your effort into another because it just won't work out.
3. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Ok, this one seems obvious, right? But once again, it really is true, and it can't be ignored. Football teams go through grueling practices for hours. They go over the plays hundreds of times and that is why they win. So if you ever want to try something and fail, just think if you don't give up, you will ultimately be good at it in the end.
4. DON'T LISTEN TO THE CRITICS: The critics out there always think they have it right. However, if you've ever really paid attention, you would realize that half the time, they are dead wrong.
Last year no one thought that UCLA would beat USC. The outcome was UCLA beat USC 13-9. The lesson is that criticism is easy for people to give, but you can't always listen. You have to keep moving forward and prove them wrong.
5. TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME: When you play football, you must take it one game at a time. The team can't think about the loss last weekend or next weekend's rival. They have to be in the moment.
Just the same, you can't be thinking about the future or the past. You can utilize what you've learned to be successful but it's really just about being in the moment.
6. THE UNDERDOG ALWAYS HAS A CHANCE: One of the best things about football is that you never know what is going to happen. Even if you have lost every game, there is still a chance.
You can take down anybody and anybody can take you down. Never underestimate anything in life.
7. EVERYBODY COUNTS: The credit of a game win usually is attributed to certain key players and coaches. However, it was everyone on that field that made it possible to win. They all contributed to the game, they all worked just as hard. Similar to a business or any group effort, everyone put in their work.
You must remember that everybody was a part of it and everybody counts. They all made some sort of difference.
And so there you have it. These are some of the things that prove (whether or not you like football) there's always something to get out of it. The next time you watch a game, keep these in mind.
