"Anything I threw at her, she threw back," Cook says. "She was ready for anything. Comedy is a gift. You either have it or you don't, and she has what Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore have."
Jessica Alba is getting a chance to prove that she is more than just a pretty face in her new comedy Good Luck Chuck, which also stars comedian turned actor Dane Cook.
The film is about Chuck (Cook), who becomes a good luck charm for all the women he dates; they end up getting engaged to the next guy they meet. Alba plays Cam, an extremely accident prone girl, who ends up falling in love with Chuck.
Her first shot at comedy came when she hosted the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, where she did a Mission: Impossible spoof, amongst others. It was because of this that Cook discovered her talent for comedy and decided that she had to be his co-star.
Originally Jennifer Love Hewitt was set to be cast, but there were conflicts with her schedule (imdb.com).
Although Alba realizes that sex sells, she still wanted to get the opportunity to show that she can be more than a sex symbol. According to her fan site, she is a long time admirer of I Love Lucy, and she was worried that she wouldn't be able to get a comedy role since she is seen only for her good looks and not what she can do.
Despite the pressure Hollywood puts on young female actresses, Alba is still sticking to her no-nudity policy. "I don't need to," she states. "People assume that's all I am anyway - only hired for being (hot)." Right now Alba's main focus is her career, "I'm giving (my career) all that I've got right now. The future is so far ahead of me. I'm trying to take advantage of each moment instead of trying to live for tomorrow or for other people. When you're open to things, things will come." And what a busy career that will be.
Next year she is taking her first stab at a horror flick, a remake of a Hong Kong film called 'The Eye.' She will also get another opportunity to show her fans her funny side when she co-stars along Michael Myer's (Austin Powers, Shrek) in The Love Guru. And according to her fan site she'll be performing a Bollywood style number in that film.
It appears that she is a risk taker and loves to try new things, a very admirable quality.
Not only does she have the reputation of being a sex symbol, but she is also a very accommodating actress and gives the fans what they want and doesn't mind signing autographs.
Good Luck Chuck is the start of a whole new side of Alba, who told Matt Lauer and the other hosts of the Today show that the reason she even started acting was to make people laugh. And it turns out the role of Cam is the closest she has come to getting to be herself: a klutz.
Alba actually chipped her front tooth on Cook's during a kissing scene, in which they spoof Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
The fact that Cam is so accident prone was what drew Alba to this character, "I'm actually very clumsy and uncoordinated [in real life]," she confessed to MTV news.
