For all the freshman students who are wondering what is actually around this little town called Pleasantville, here are a few places so that you don't feel "dazed and confused."
There actually are a lot of stores near campus, some are close enough where you can simply walk to. Right down the road, taking a left out of the Pleasantville campus onto Bedford Road is a 7-Eleven which is open 24 hours. There is also a Carvel, Dunkin' Donuts, and Zuma Tanning Salon across the street for all of you who love ice cream, coffee and being tan year round.
As you continue on Bedford Road there is Key Foods grocery store which is open until 12 a.m. It is a great place to go food shopping because it's so close, and the Pace Bus can take you right there.
Further ahead on Bedford Road is a Subway, and all little shops on the same block such as a Tattoo shop, Sun's nail salon, On's Chinese Kitchen (which does deliver) and Jean Jacques', a French Bistro.
If you make a left off of Bedford Road onto Memorial Plaza, you will come across the Pleasantville Metro- North train station. The train takes you into Grand Central Terminal in New York City and the ride is about 40 minutes long.
It is an easy and cheap way to get into Manhattan and runs frequently. On the same block as the train is a Starbucks which just opened up, the Post Office, in case you ever need to send a package, and the Pleasantville Diner which is always useful on Saturday mornings when you've partied too hard the night before.
If you go back to Bedford Road and make the next left after Memorial Plaza (which is Wheeler Avenue), you will see the Pleasantville Police Station on the corner and Chase Bank on the right.
There is the Pop Shop which is a cute little candy store that has all you can imagine, even ice cream. There is Pleasantville Pizza, Frank & Joe's Delicatessen, Keane's Bakery, and Jackson & Wheeler, which are all good places to eat.
If you need to buy a present, there is Hallmark and the Nelson's Flower Shop. If you think that's all, don't worry, there's more. Washington Avenue, which may be hard to find but is only a block off of Memorial Plaza to the left, has Mc Arthur's, which is a reasonably priced American grill restaurant and is good to go to for lunch or dinner.
Continuing down the block is Coldstone Creamery, Lucio's Pizzeria, the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department and two banks: Chase and Wachovia. There are also more nail salons and the Beautiful Hair Color salon.
If you end up not turning down any roads off of Bedford, it will eventually lead you into Michael's Tavern which is another American grill and bar. On the corner next door is an Italian restaurant called A'Mangiara's.
If you turn right off of Bedford, it turns into Broadway which leads to the Thornwood Shopping Center on the left. There is Shop Rite, CVS, Finnegan's Restaurant, A&S Fine Foods, GNC, Citibank and Amore Pizzeria.
Also on Broadway is Dino's Pizzeria and another Subway, which also delivers. If you make a right onto Kensico Avenue, there is a Japanese Restaurant on the corner called Abis. It is a little expensive, but very worth it. And if you continue going you will see a McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and Plaza Video store.
This road will eventually lead you back into Bedford Road and 2 consecutive lefts will take you back to Pace.
If you turn right however, it will lead you into another shopping center with an A&P, KFC, Radio Shack, and another pizzeria/ restaurant called Silvio's.
Now, if you want to go do some serious shopping, there are two malls which are within 20- 25 minutes of Pace. One is the Palisades mall which has all the stores you can imagine plus Target, an IMAX Theatre, Dave & Busters, and an Ice Rink. And yes, I did say ice rink.
To get there, you need to get on 9A and take it to the Saw Mill Parkway on the right. From there, you get off at exit 22 towards Albany/ Tappan Zee Bridge and get into I-287 West. Next, get off exit 12- West Nyack, and make a left into the mall.
If you want to go to White Plains instead, there is the Westchester Mall which has Nordstrom's, Juicy Couture, Sephora, Neiman Marcus, Aldo, Steve Madden, Express, and more.
To get there, take the Sprain Brook Parkway off of 9A to the exit on the left for White Plains. It will take you onto I-287E, and there will be an exit for the Westchester Mall- Exit 8.
So there, whatever you need, you can find easier than you probably thought- and it's closer than most would believe.
