Has stardom gotten to Owen Wilson?

Owen Wilson's suicide attempt last month is reported to be the third time that the actor has tried to take his own life. Wilson is now under constant supervision at his home in Santa Monica, after returning home from a week long stay at Cedars-Sinai hospital.

Wilson's career up until now has been a roller coaster ride in which he took advantage of all the ups and downs. He started his career in 1996 when he and former colleague friend Wes Anderson got together and created Bottle Rocket. Though it was a bomb, Wilson found himself coming into the spotlight with big budget films for the next three years.

Wilson later on reencountered himself working with Wes Anderson once again creating the film The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) which featured Bill Murray, Owen Wilson himself, his brother Luke Wilson, frequent co-star Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow.

After that, Wilson's career sky rocketed and got him roles in big box office hits like Zoolander (2001), Old School (2003), Starsky & Hutch (2004), The Wedding Crashers (2005) and his most recent film with former ex-girlfriend Kate Hudson, You, Me and Dupree (2006).

Wilson was set to star in the upcoming film Tropic Thunder along with Ben Stiller and Jack Black as well as co-star along with Jennifer Aniston in Marley and Me (2008). Supposedly, Dreamworks Pictures are to carry on with the film as planned, however Variety had claimed that Wilson would not be taking part. A spokesperson for Fox said it's "totally inappropriate at this time" to ask if Wilson's role would be recast.

Wilson had apparently been in a deep depression leading up to the latest suicide attempt. However, according to the source, it was not professional pressures that led the Wedding Crashers star to slash at his wrists and overdose in Oxycodone, but rather personal matters. Wilson felt demoralized after failing to develop material for a friend's film project.

A source who claims to be close to the family told the National Enquirer: "A good portion of his [Owen's] life has been dedicated to fighting depression and addiction… This is the third time he's tried killing himself."

A second source told the Sun that over the past couple of weeks Wilson had been invited to several parties in Malibu but didn't show up. The source stated that: "He seemed to go into a cloud of depression. He was down and didn't open up. He kind of changed." The source continued to state that, "he is seriously lucky to be alive - he was really close to death when he arrived and they had to do everything to keep him with us. He's such a wonderful person, such a great guy, so smart and nice. We're just hoping he gets better."

Recently Owen Wilson's family has apparently banned ex-girlfriend Kate Hudson from visiting him.

Hudson, who broke up with Wilson in June, has been desperately trying to get in touch with Wilson, but his family believes that Kate is not "good" for the actor.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Kate has been trying to get in touch with Owen and is distraught that the family doesn't want her anywhere near him. She is very frustrated. "Owen's family doesn't think Kate is good for him."

Wilson had begun dating Hudson after they met on the set of the comedy You, Me and Dupree. The relationship had ended after difficulties involving Wilson's wild behavior. Hudson is now "devastated" after hearing the news while filming in Boston.

For now, Wilson is being treated and family hopes that things get better. As for fans of Wilson's, his films are the comedies of the century and they aren't ready to see him go.
