Global warming is becoming more accepted as a reality. In fact, it's so common, you can actually bet on it.
There is an online gambling service that is now taking bets on the various affects of global warming. Players can go online and place bets on when the East Coast's top vacation spots will be submerged by global warming.
There are other types of global warming bets, but not are as popular according to the statistics of the website BetUs.com.
Right now, the site offers odds 200-1 that Cape Henry in Virginia will be sunk by 2015 and 300-1 that Cape Hatteras in North Carolina will be under by the same year.
Scientists urge that gamblers don't get too excited, since this deal may be too good to be true. Phil Roehrs, a Coastal Engineer for the city of Virginia Beach, says that although sea levels are rising on the East Coast, scientists are not predicting anywhere near the levels needed to submerge any of these locations by the dates BetUs.com has put up.
"No wonder the odds are so good," he told the press.
The poor chances have not stopped gamblers from taking the seemingly impossible bet. Over 3,000 bets were placed before the end of the first week of online booking, said Reed Richards as a spokesman for the site.
As of right now, it seems that the majority of gamblers believe that Manhattan will be an underwater city by the start of 2012.
