April is known in most parts of the country as a month full of rain and Easter baskets. However, in New York most people recognize it as the month that the New York International Auto Show literally rolls into town.
The auto show ran from Fri., April 6 to Sun., April 15 and as usual, was held in the Jacob Javits Convention Center. This year's show was extraordinarily exciting with the debut of several new vehicles including high end, economical and hybrid, set to be in production in the near future.
The New York International Auto Show is the biggest in the city and has been for years. It is basically a showcase that allows each car manufacturer to let consumers collectively see their brand's complete line of cars.
The car companies also debut concept, hybrid, and new model cars at the show. The main floor of the convention center is divided up into several exhibits, each one specific to a certain company. The car companies are then allowed to do whatever they want within the space.
Many companies install very large video screens that display many of their cars' features followed by giant logos. Companies also offer up entertainment for the guests in the form of playable video games, simulators, or photographers offering to take pictures of you in front of high end cars at no extra charge.
One attraction that every participating car company employs is the use of the spinning platform for their latest vehicle. In most cases, a very attractive female host will be standing on the platform with the car giving a detailed description of the vehicles specifications and availability. However, probably the most exciting portion of the show is its hands-on quality. Guests are allowed to sit in a tinker with almost every car on the floor. Of course, certain cars aren't open to the public, but the majority are, which makes for an informative and exciting show for the young and old alike.
In total, 41 different car manufacturers spanning from ultra expensive (Maybach) to the ultra affordable (Kia) had exhibits up and running this year. This year's show was highlighted by several anticipated car releases and the viewings of several engineering masterpieces.
