Formed about eight months ago out of Teaneck, NJ, The Chance Fate is the result of the disbandment of three local Jersey bands; Conflict of Heart (ring a bell?), A Lifeless Alliance, and Surfing Amy.
Rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist, Jeremy met lead guitarist, backup vocalist and Pace student, Tom Sciro about two years ago while the two would often play shows together with their respective bands at that time.
Sciro says they hit it off because they are both idiots who share the same unique interests in transformers, nostalgic video games, and 1980's pop culture. They also discovered that they share a common bond with their music and their obsession with making it in the business.
While Sciro was still busy with Conflict of Heart, Jeremy called him and told him he quit his band and wanted to start a new project with his drummer, Dan and Sciro. At that moment, the timing wasn't right, however, shortly after, Conflict of Heart called it quits and Sciro was on board. After finding bassist, Roberto, The Chance Fate was "ready to take over the world."
Before the band started making any music, they had to come up with a name. The Chance Fate is based off an early 1990's video board game called Nightmare, a hit amongst the band's members. In the game, there are "chance" and "fate" cards that players draw which dictate what happens to them in the game.
They decided to incorporate this into the name because it can be interpreted on a serious level, saying chance and fate dictate what happens in life, or a funny level when thinking about the 1990's throw back game.
Over the last few months, the band has been practicing a lot and writing songs for their demo. Most of their songs tell fictional stories based on fictional characters, with some of them being linked back to band members.
They currently have a demo containing four songs that they hand out at shows and send to prospective record labels. These songs can also be heard on their myspace page (myspace.com/thechancefate).
More recently, the band has started playing live shows to help generate a bigger fan base. On April 10, they performed at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ with a small, yet energetic crowd who were singing along to their four singles; "Try, Fail, Die, Repeat," "Annabelle," "Our Brightest Black," and "This is What Will K."
They plan to play more local shows leading up to summer and then hope to go on a full summer tour. They haven't talked to any bands about touring yet, but Sciro says if they had the choice they would want to tour with Bayside, because they are nice guys who have a "huge cult following" and The Sleeping who are friends with the band and able to draw in the fans that The Chance Fate wish to some day call their own.
