Union Parish Officials and School Board members are attempting to decide what to do about a case of felony obscenity.

In a small rural town north of New Orleans, a class full of students learned about the birds and the bees with disturbing visuals.

On Mar 27, the fifth grade class' teacher left her class unattended to clarify a matter with another teacher. One girl allegedly stood up and said, "The teacher's gone, we can do whatever we want." She and another 11-year-old girl then proceeded to have sex with two boys, one 12 and the other 13, in the back of the classroom.

Ten other students were horrified and tried to figure out what to do with themselves. But one student, an 11-year-old boy jumped up and volunteered to be lookout.

"After 44 years of doing this work, nothing shocks me anymore," said Union Parish Sheriff Bob Buckley. "But this comes pretty close."

Authorities did not find out about the incident until that night, but the four fornicators were arrested last Tuesday and are facing charges of felony obscenity. Their lookout was also arrested and is charged with accessory to the crime.

But authorities are unsure how to proceed at this point. The students have been arrested and charged, but the town DA has not made an official comment as to whether or not the town will actually prosecute the children.

The school has also withheld comment as to how they intend to deal with the students and/or the teacher in terms of discipline.

"We need sex education somewhere, whether at home or in the schools, so that these kids know that there is more to sex than just the act," said one officer.

One student's mother blames the teacher for being absent from the class while this was going on. She claims that it was neglectful for the students to be left alone at the school. Whatever misbehavior the teacher was expecting to have to deal with upon her return, it can be sure that this was not it.
